Phase 1

Target Understanding

This phase builds a grounded picture of the environment before contact is made. The objective is to understand people, routines, physical layout, timing, and likely decision points that will shape the rest of the operation.

Purpose

Target Understanding reduces guesswork. It turns a generic scope into an operational picture that can support realistic approach planning and defensible reporting later.

In black teaming work, small observations often matter more than technical novelty. Entry flow, badge habits, reception behavior, shift patterns, and contractor presence can all change the path of the assessment.
